Why Volunteer?

Most people know that volunteering benefits the community; by donating a little (or a lot) of your time, you can help the community thrive. Whether you enjoy books or the great outdoors, there is always something you can do to help better the world and the people around you. What many people don't realize, however, is that you can better yourself by volunteering as well.
By volunteering you can learn new skills or develop existing ones. If you decide to volunteer in a classroom you will quickly learn how to work with kids and how to accommodate a spectrum of different learning styles. If you decide your strengths lie in a more managerial field, you can further your "people skills" and learn how to organize larger events. No matter where you volunteer, there is room for personal development and self fulfillment. Volunteering also means meeting new people that you would probably never talk to otherwise. This means new friends, new experiences, and a new perception of life. No matter who you encounter while volunteering, you will come out of the experience better than you were when you went in.
Who doesn't get that feeling of accomplishment and pride after a day of helping out? You have bettered yourself and your community, and probably made a couple friends along the way, so what's not to feel proud of?
If you've had a good experience with volunteering, feel free to comment!
